A Study on the Effect of An Jeonyi Cheon Tang on Sex Hormones Changes and Lipid Metabolism in the Ovariectomized Rats

Abstract

|
This study was performed to investigate the effect of An Jeonyi Cheon Tang (AJCT) in oriental medicine on climacteric disturbance. The experimental model of menopause was induced by bilateral ovatiectomy in Rats. These were administrated orally with liquid extract An Jeonyi Cheon Tang.
The level of serum LH, serum FSH, serum total estrogen, serum progesterone, serum total cholesterol, serum triglyceride and number of the WBC, RBC, platelet were measured.
The results were obtained as follows
1. Serum LH level was decreased significantly in all treated group of AJCT as compared with the control group.
2. Serum FSH level was decreased significantly in all treated group of AJCT as compared with the control group.
3. Serum total estrogen level was increased significantly in only high concentration of AJCT as compared with the control group.
4. Serum progesterone level was increased significantly in all treated group of AJCT as compared with the control group.
5. Serum total cholesterol level was increased insignificantly in all treated group of AJCT as compared with the control group.
6. Serum triglyceride level was decreased insignificantly in only low concentration of AJCT as compared with the control group.
7. Number of the WBC was decreased significantly in only high concentration of AJCT as compared with the control group.
8. Number of the RBC was increased insignificantly in only low concentration of AJCT as compared with the control group.
9. Number of the platelet was decreased significantly in only high concentration of AJCT as compared with the control group.
From above results, it was thought that AJCT could be applied effectively to the pregnancy maintenance.
